A follow-up to the groundbreaking Visual Communications documentary OMAI FA'ATASI: SAMOA MO SAMOA, this fictionalized account of Vaitafe Futu, a gifted Samoan youth who travels from Pago Pago to pursue an education in Los Angeles offers a wholistic portrait of a newer Asian Pacific American community. Vaitafe's struggle to succeed at earning an advanced education is complicated by government cutbacks in education support, as well as various family crises. Only when his family and friends come together in the Samoan tradition of "fa'alavelaves" (family concerns) to help one of their best and brightest does Vaitafe learn the true meaning of "community."
